Local parks the school holiday destination

LOCALS and tourists are set to fill Riverland school holiday destinations following the removal of travel restrictions inside South Australia.
Caravan park operators across the region have seen an influx of bookings ahead of the school holidays, with many restrictions associated with COVID-19 now eased.
Waikerie Holiday Park administration officer Debbie Enright said travelling South Australians were quick to begin planning holidays to the Riverland.
“It’s looking positive for the school holidays,” Ms Enright said.
“We’ve been getting lots of bookings with people trying to get away, (however) we’ve still got sites available and some limited availability with cabins.
“It’s been great to see how popular the Riverland is for South Australians looking to holiday within our state.
“From the minute things were open the phones were ringing with people trying to get away.”
Ms Enright said Waikerie’s environmental attractions, restaurants and wineries, and proximity to the River Murray made it a suitable destination for couples and families.
“I would say there’s lots to do here for families as well as grey nomads,” she said.
“If you’re interested you can do the tourist walks and (go to) the wineries… and do water activities.”
Ms Enright said tourism during holiday periods was vital to local businesses in Waikerie.
“With all the extra people coming into town over the school holidays this should provide a great boost to local businesses.”
