Local Historical Village’s child-friendly weekend

ALTHOUGH the Loxton Historical Village will be unable to host its popular October long-weekend event, the community has rallied together to host a few – mostly child-friendly – activities on the premise.
The Loxton Historical Village’s Alive Day has been cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions, however the committee has found other ways to spread joy and community involvement over the long-weekend.
Loxton Historical Village co-ordinator Julie Noble said many “exciting” activities have been set over the three days.
“From 10am to 4pm on October 3, 4 and 5, the village will be open to the public with things for everyone to enjoy,” she said.
“We will display our unusual and interesting historical exhibits, have old-fashioned games, have the Loxton Hospital sell hot doughnuts, and workshops for kids will be available.
“Local Erin Taylor will hold half-hour paint-a-pot classes on the Saturday, with the first starting at 11am and the last at 1.30pm.
“Sessions will be $5 and booking are preferred, as there is a limit of 10 children per class.
“On Sunday there will be free painting workshops with a Loxton artist and free craft workshops on the Monday.”
Ms Noble said the event would be COVID-safe.
“People will have to sign-in, sanitise and practice social distancing,” she said.
“The historical village is popular and a great place to visit and we want to be able to keep it that way.”
Ms Noble said she looks forward to the event.
“We’ve already had some people say they’re interested in coming down and trying out some of our workshops,” she said.
“We’re excited for the long weekend and can’t wait to see people out-and-about.”
Entry fees are $6 for children, $10 for concessions, $20 for adults and $30 for families – two adults and three children – and bookings are preferred.
