Local businesses broach mental health

LOCAL business owners explored their mental health stresses, issues and options during a statewide digital breakfast meeting recently, featuring key speakers from all walks of life.
The Riverland West Chamber of Commerce (RWCC) joined chambers from across the state in a Business SA Biggest Mentally Healthy Business Breakfast, sharing conversation and ways of coping with mental health stresses in business over breakfast.
RWCC chair Sonia Fowler said the event was held digitally, allowing chambers across the state to ask questions in real-time.
“To be part of a state-wide event and have a voice is a very worthwhile experience,” she said.
“Our members were able to pose questions to the mental health panel and hear a range of answers from experts and advocates that touched from medical facts to first-hand opinions and experiences.
“About 15 RWCC members attended the digital meeting at the Waikerie Hotel, which put on a great breakfast for all the attendees, so thanks to them for that.
“During this strange year, being able to be part of such an event gives us all a sense of connectedness.”
The mental health panel included Business SA chair Martin Haese, SA Mental Health Commission’s David Kelly, Australian of the Year 2020 James Muecke, lived experience presenter Zane Kirkwood, farming community ifarmwell Kate Gunn, and University of SA professor Maureen Dollard.
