Lions clubs hear students roar

THREE Glossop High School students participated in this year’s Lions Youth of the Year awards under the Berri district banner.
Cameron Dixon, Bianca Feher and Erin Wood, all year 12, took part in the event which is designed to help students improve citizenship qualities before entering the workforce.
The trio competed at the Berri Lions Club final on February 24 at the Berri Hotel, with Bianca receiving the public speaking award and Cameron taking home the overall win.
Cameron went on to compete at the C2 District Final in Goolwa – where he came runner up – and will now go to the state final at Golden Grove High School in Adelaide this Sunday to compete against other district finalists statewide.
Cameron said the competition helped him improve his leadership, personality, sportsmanship and public-speaking qualities.
“The opportunity came up through school to participate in the local competition, which I saw was a great way to express my voice and opinion on a topic that has given me so much,” he said.
“The competition expressed leadership and how others can implement it into their daily lives.
“I learnt that everyone is a leader in their own way and sometimes without knowing it, you could be influencing others and that’s really special.”
Cameron said he was grateful for the opportunity.
“The Berri Lions Club, Glossop High School and my teacher Mrs Lindner have given and still give me so much support with this endeavour,” he said.
“I look forward to what’s next.”
