Lions bazaar coincides with the Rose Festival

A LOCAL Lions Club will host its monthly fundraising bazaar in conjunction with the Renmark Riverland Rose Festival this month.
The Renmark Lions Club’s bazaars – which are usually held on the last Saturday of every month – differ every October to coincide with the Rose Festival, to give visitors “something extra to look forward to” on the weekend.
Fundraising bazaar co-ordinator Colin Pettigrew said he looks forward to this month’s event.
“The Renmark Lions are proud sponsors of the Renmark Riverland Rose Festival and the region is always busy this time of year,” he said.
“The Rose Festival attracts lots of people every year, so why not give them something extra to do during their time here and attract more people to our bazaar.”
Mr Pettigrew said the club’s monthly bazaar has a few extra perks when in conjunction with the Rose Festival.
“Our bazaars slowly get bigger and bigger and every October we have an antique auction to go along with our bazaar – it’s extremely popular,” he said.
“We will have a viewing on the Friday before our bazaars from 3pm to 4pm at the Lions shed so people can come by and check out the items the day before they purchase them.”
Mr Pettigrew said he and the Lions members are “humbled” by the community’s support.
“Without the community, the bazaars wouldn’t be possible,” he said.
“For more than 10 years the club has had fantastic items donated for our bazaars and we’ve had some great quality items too.
“We get lots of help and we love seeing our regulars monthly.
“We see about 50 or 100 of the same people monthly and they love it.
“It always raises a lot of money and I love the focus it has on fellowship within the club and community.”
Mr Pettigrew said with the funds, the Lions are able to support many appeals.
“We are able to help and donate to local and national appeals and it’s a great feeling,” he said.
“We support Life Without Barriers in Berri and medical appeals to name a few.
“Earlier this year we helped farmers who were affected by the bushfires and that was truly rewarding.
“We would love to keep helping as many people as we can and our bazaars are a great way to do so.”
The next bazaar will be held on Saturday, October 24, at the Renmark Oval opposite the W E Wood Hall.
A barbecue, hot doughnuts and drinks will be available and COVID protocols apply.
