Lake Bonney jetty works set to go ahead

AT least two pylons supporting the Lake Bonney jetty, in Barmera, will be replaced, after wild weather caused significant damage to the local landmark earlier this year.
The Berri Barmera Council is currently negotiating with insurers about the cost of repairing the pylons, including one that snapped during a storm in April.
Berri Barmera CEO Karyn Burton said the council was going ahead with repairs to the damaged pylon “as well as one directly opposite which apparently is not in good shape”.
“While the contractor is doing that, he will be putting on a wet suit and doing a further assessment on the other pylons to provide council with a report on whether any further works are necessary,” she said.
“Once we have done the works and the assessment is done, and all going well, we will remove fencing for public access.”
Ms Burton also said the council had received reports from Barmera residents that a car had been parked on the jetty a few weeks prior to the pylon breaking, but local police could not follow up on the incident due to a lack of evidence.
