Keeping kids busy these school holidays

THE Renmark Paringa Council’s family activity packs are back these school holidays, after being a “huge success” previously.
In the April school holidays, the council was unable to host its regular activities – due to COVID-19 – so the staff improvised by creating free activity packs for Renmark Paringa residents, which turned out to be “extremely popular”.
Renmark Paringa Council community development officer Emma Warner said there was a high demand for activity packs to be provided again these school holidays.
“Last school holidays were tough with coronavirus restrictions, but we didn’t want Renmark kids to miss out on fun during the school holidays,” she said.
“We wanted to give the kids something so we came up with this idea and it was more popular than what we thought it would’ve been.
“Initially, we started with 100 packs, but within 45 minutes we ran out.
“In the end we made just under 600 packs and everyone seemed to enjoy them.”
Mrs Warner said the activity packs will differ from the last.
“Last school holidays, our packs had a lot more colouring-in activities in them, but after some feedback, we found that craft activities were what people were after,” she said.
“We’ve got various activities but these school holidays we unfortunately only have 400 packs – so people need to get in quick.
“Another new thing in the activity packs will be a recipe.
“Some people mentioned they love to cook with their kids so we have put together some recipes and we will film videos of us cooking and upload them to our Facebook page and website.
“Storytime will also continue and the activity packs will feature something affiliated with the book read.”

The council will contact those who register this week to confirm the no-contact allocated pick-up day and time.
