Jetty closed after wild weather causes damage

THE Barmera jetty will remain closed until further notice after one of the posts supporting the structure broke over the weekend.
The post, which had begun to rot away, was broken by stormy weather on Saturday night.
Berri Barmera Council CEO Karyn Burton said the council was working on getting the jetty fixed as soon as possible.
“The whole jetty has been fenced off to prevent access for safety reasons,” she said.
“We will need to get somebody to assess the entire structure to make sure it is safe, and to allow council to look at any repairs that may need to be done elsewhere.
“We are looking into whether insurance will cover the cost of repairs or not.
“We’ve braced that particular post, but we won’t let anyone on there until we know if the whole jetty is safe or not, and we’ll move on that as quickly as we can.”
