ICAC gives Tim the all clear

BEING cleared of misconduct surrounding travel expense claims could pave the way for a Riverland MP to once again become a State Government minister.
The South Australian Independent Commissioner Against Corruption last week announced Member for Chaffey Tim Whetstone was among nine regional-based MPs cleared of misconduct regarding the claims of travel allowances.
Mr Whetstone was forced to resign his role as Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development in July after it was found he incorrectly claimed a travel allowance of $234 per night for staying in Adelaide.
However, Commissioner Ann Vanstone QC stated further investigations into the matter failed to “reveal evidence of misconduct”.
Mr Whetstone – who said there was no “intention of malice” behind his actions – will now seek to regain a ministerial role within the State Government.
“I’ve definitely got unfinished business in the primary industries portfolio, but I’m focused on just being part of the cabinet,” Mr Whetstone said.
“It might not be primary industries, it might be trade, or tourism… all of those portfolios are key to Chaffey.
“That’s my strength and the absolute priority for business in the Riverland and Mallee.”
