Hope for more projections on Bonney Theatre after successful first showing

A RIVERLAND artist, who helped organise a public projection artwork in Barmera during the school holidays, says there are plans for more art projects in the town.
Letters of the Riverland, an eight-and-a-half-minute projection artwork created by local arts initiative Part of Things, was shown on the side of the Bonney Theatre at night during the second week of the July school holidays.
The artwork featured narration from five Riverland writers, one each from Renmark, Berri, Loxton, Barmera and Waikerie, who each wrote a letter “to the Riverland”.
Seven local photographers contributed 10 images, with the photographs inspiring parts of the artwork, which included animation, illustration, effects and still photography.
Part of Things chief storyteller Alysha Hermann said she enjoyed seeing the public’s response to the artwork, and that she intended on creating more projection artworks in the future.
“It’s been lovely to see things popping up on social media of people sharing it,” she said.
“The projectors belong to the Berri Barmera Council, and their intention is to have more works shown there.
“We’re planning to have some quarterly ‘projection jams’ so people can come together and throw around their ideas and then go away and try to make some of them.
“There’s all different kinds of reflections of what it means to be a Riverlander, so hopefully people saw something that resonated with them. Letters of the Riverland is the beginning of the conversation, not the end of it.”
