Holder Top slip lane slip-up remedy?

FOLLOWING months of concerns for Holder residents, the Sturt Highway/Holder Top Road intersection could see left-turning slip lanes installed following design works.
The State Department for Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) recently engaged a consultant to undertake design plans for a left-turning slip lane from the Sturt Highway onto Holder Top Road.
Notorious for driving hazards, and following several serious car crashes at the site, the intersection was granted a Federal Government Black Spot grant program funding of $1.52 million in 2017 to improve safety.
The works were completed in late 2019 with right-turning lanes installed – but a noticeable lack of left-turning slip lanes.
Member for Barker Tony Pasin said while the Federal Government awarded the funding, the State Government was responsible for the design and construction work.
“I’ve been speaking to DPTI to keep updated on how they plan on addressing this issue,” he said.
“In my opinion, a left-hand slip lane should have been part of the initial plans.
“The intention of the $1.52 million was to improve safety at the intersection; without the slip lane, it has unfortunately fallen short of this outcome, and DPTI has had to lower the speed limit in the vicinity.
“Notwithstanding that, I’m pleased that DPTI has now agreed to undertake the design work needed to develop an accurate cost of the works required to remedy the situation.”
The design works are estimated to be completed by the end of October.
