Harriet’s big chop

BERRI’S Our Lady of the River School student Harriet Dixon-Chapman will chop off her luscious locks this Friday during a school assembly, to raise money for two charities she holds close to heart.
The year 2 student, who has been looking at cutting her hair off for a while, said she was “excited” to finally go through with it.
“My hair is really long and it goes past my bottom,” she said.
“It’s hard to manage and it’s really heavy, I’ve wanted to get rid of it for a while.
“Mum suggested donating my hair to Variety Hair with Heart and I thought it was a good idea so we started a GoFundMe page.
“My aim is to raise $1000 and split the money – half going to Variety Hair with Heart and the other half going to JDRF.
“My friend has diabetes and this year JDRF are unable to do their fundraising walk because of coronavirus, so I want to help out.”
Harriet’s mother, Danielle, said she was proud of her daughter.
“It’ll be sad to see her long hair go but it’s for a great cause and we are really excited,” she said.
“I measured that approximately 15 inches of her hair will be cut off – cut just above her shoulders – and it’s too beautiful to just throw away.
“I’m proud knowing my daughter will be helping children in need of a wig.”
The “big chop” will happen during the school’s assembly this Friday by either Harriet’s mother or a staff member, all students will wear red and blue – red for Variety and blue for JDRF – and give a gold coin donation.
