HARRIET FAREWELLS LONG LOCKS

BERRI’S Our Lady of the River School students sat through a special assembly last week as a fellow classmate chopped of her locks for charity.
Year 2 student Harriet Dixon-Chapman had 15 inches of her hair cut off by staff member Georgia Eckermann at the end of the school’s assembly last Friday.
Students were asked to wear red and blue on the day to symbolise the two charities Harriet was fundraising towards – Variety Hair with Heart and JDRF – and over $1500 was raised through GoFundMe and school donations, which was Harriet’s goal.
Harriet’s mother Danielle said she was proud of her daughter.
“So many emotions were going through me on the day because I was so sad to see her beautiful hair go but I knew it was going to a good cause,” she said.
“I cried but they were definitely happy tears because I knew how much she wanted this and how happy she was.
“I had my parents and next-door-neighbour come along too and Harriet was so happy seeing them there.
“She loves her new hair-do and can’t stop flinging her hair around and brushing it.”
Mrs Dixon-Chapman described the school’s support as “amazing”.
“The school did a fantastic job in setting everything up and with just the students alone, $200 was raised,” she said.
“Many of the students’ mums came along to watch, which was so lovely, and the staff were so supportive.
“After the first part of Harriet’s hair was chopped off, I heard many of the students gasp, but afterwards they were so great and were happy for her.”
