Greek treats for special workers

A LOCAL food van treated staff at the Riverland General Hospital earlier this week to a free Greek-style lunch.
Berri-based Lefty’s Greek Street Eatz served over 90 meals at the hospital on Tuesday to thank the staff for their ongoing dedication and hard work for keeping Riverlanders safe through the COVID-19 pandemic.
Owner Terry Eleftheriadis said it felt “satisfying” to do something for local hospital workers.
“I’ve told my kids that I can’t heal anyone but I can cook and we can all contribute in a small way to make the world a better place,” he said.
“Two of my children Deni, 16, and Macy, 14, helped me out on the day and they did a great job.”
Mr Eleftheriadis said the day was made possible with the help from his suppliers.
“My suppliers Rollbusch Quality Meats and Dougie’s Seafood and Wholesale were fantastic with jumping on board without hesitation,” he said.
“Both of those local businesses are run by incredible men and if anyone could support them in any way, that would be fantastic.”
Mr Eleftheriadis said he was kept busy all day.
“It was just myself and my two teenage kids so it was a challenge to cook so many meals,” he said.
“The day was a success and we hope we could one day go to other essential businesses.”
Mr Eleftheriadis’ daughter, Deni, said she was “proud” of her father.
“My dad has inspired us and showed us that even the slightest gesture can help put smiles on people’s faces,” she said.
“My mum works in the health sector so we understand what the staff are going through.
“The world is going through something horrible at the moment and helping my dad serve food today has made me proud.”
