Grave concerns: Cemetery options explored

People who wish to be buried in the Loxton cemetery to be with family members may not have that option in the future.
The Loxton cemetery is slowly running out of room and is expected to reach capacity in 20 years’ time.
Loxton Waikerie council CEO David Beaton said a range of options would need to be considered.
“When we are down to about five years supply, we will be looking to see where else we can expand,” he said.
“More people are being cremated, so that effects the demand for the land as well.”
Mr Beaton said the future council will need to consider a second cemetery location.
“(The current cemetery) is surrounded by occupied land, it would mean moving to somewhere else,” he said.
Loxton’s cemetery is located within the township, only 500m from the main street, unlike most other Riverland cemeteries.
