Gorgeous gowns tell ‘special’ stories

MORE than 100 people took a look back at bridal dresses through the ages last weekend at a fundraising event hosted by SACWA Riverland.
The Brides through the Ages event took place at the Renmark Hotel on Sunday featuring a fashion parade – with models wearing more than 50 different gowns, including multicultural garments – and a high tea, plus auction, raffle, quiz and display of other bridal attire.
SACWA Riverland branch president Julie Brand said she was pleased with the turnout.
“Usually the event is hosted at Olivewood but unfortunately due to COVID restrictions, we were limited with numbers,” she said.
“The Renmark Hotel allowed for more people to come along and all up we sold 113 tickets.
“Seeing as the event was cancelled last year due to COVID, we decided to add some new things and the ladies came up with little things that added some touches for the day.
“Locals were generous with donating auction and raffle prizes to the event, SACWA members catered and baked for the beautiful high tea, and we (the members) used our own crockery.”
Ms Brand thanked the women who loaned their bridal gowns for the day.
“It was fantastic seeing dresses come from not only across the region, but across the state and some from interstate,” she said.
“We saw dresses of different colours, eras and cultures, which many people wouldn’t get a chance to see, and each told a story.
“Some models wore their mother’s dresses while others wore their own.
“It was very special.”
