Glossop consolidation plans progressing

PLANS to consolidate the Glossop High School middle campus into the senior campus in Berri are moving ahead, with the State Government and Berri Barmera Council working together to address traffic and stormwater concerns.
Development applications for the construction of two new classroom buildings and extensions for the existing administration building and performing arts centre at the school’s Berri campus were approved by then-planning minister Stephan Knoll in early July.
In a report to council’s Strategy, Assets and Major Projects Committee meeting in August, Berri Barmera CEO Karyn Burton said council had made a written submission to the state’s Public Works Committee raising matters of “urgent concern”.
Ms Burton said approval of the development application was subject to the preparation of traffic and stormwater management plans by the project architects and council.
“This outcome is considered the best outcome for council and allows appropriate input by staff who have greater knowledge of the impacts to the interfacing infrastructure requirements,” she said.
“A meeting between council staff and project architects has recently been held with good discussion and local knowledge being shared regarding the traffic and stormwater matters that will need to be addressed during construction.
“It is anticipated at this stage that all matters of concern will be attended to.”
Council staff are also consulting with Glossop High School principal Emily Griggs to work through “operational issues and expectations” facing the joint-use Berri library.
The redevelopment of the Berri campus is expected to be completed before the 2022 school year.
