LOCAL pubs, gyms, cinemas, places of worship, beauty salons and other sites will now be permitted to have up to 80 people on their premises from June 1 after a State Government announcement earlier this week, as long as appropriate safeguards are implemented.
In other welcomed changes by Premier Steven Marshall this week, contact training and non-contact outdoor sport competitions will be able to commence from next Monday with contact competition launching from June 25.
Mr Marshall thanked all South Australians for their co-operation with the State Liberal Government’s strong plan to mitigate and suppress the spread of COVID-19, which has allowed businesses to safely re-open and with greater capacity.
“Thanks to our state’s world-leading response to the threat of COVID-19, we are now in a position to give many more South Australian businesses a head-start, and with potentially four times the capacity as to what was first flagged in our initial roadmap,” he said.
“Thousands of jobs throughout our state will now potentially be reactivated earlier and in greater numbers, fast-tracking our economic road to recovery in a safe and responsible way.
“This pandemic has always been a crisis on two fronts – health and economic – and we are committed to shielding South Australians through both.”
Berri Hotel manager Jeremy Sweet said he looks forward to re-opening and welcoming people in for a meal.
“We found various ways to stay afloat amid the COVID-19 pandemic by collaborating with the Big River Tavern and offering takeaway and delivery options,” he said.
“But, we look forward to opening our doors and inviting people in for a meal and some drinks.”
Mr Sweet said the hotel managed to maintain a strong relationship with its customers and the wider community during the pandemic.
“Social media has played a part in maintaining communication with our customers along with EDM’s and traditional media,” he said.
“We’ve been able to understand what consumers are after and how we could stay afloat.
“We’ve been lucky to be well-supported and kept busy and now we can’t wait to see our customers dine in.”
