Funnel-web found locally

A SPIDER rarely found in South Australia has been spotted crawling in a Cadell man’s yard.
Dean Schiller discovered a northern tree-dwelling funnel-web spider at the front of his home last week.
Mr Schiller said he was “amazed” at his discovery.
“I’m always on the lookout for things like spiders and snakes because we have a little puppy and don’t want it getting hurt,” he said.
“When I came across it, I was shocked because it’s not a spider that’s native to South Australia, it’s usually found in New South Wales and Queensland.
“Many caravans drive past the front of my home so I’m guessing this one latched on from someone’s travels and ended up here.”
Mr Schiller has kept the spider in a jar and will send it to PIRSA for testing.
