Floating fundraiser flourishes

COLOURFUL boats and crews have been seen travelling along the river this week as part of an annual “floating fundraiser”.
Novita’s Mighty River Run, which began on Monday with the first leg from Customs House to Berri, will see teams travel 480km along the river over the course of five days.
A full program of events was scheduled for the week, including a special client lunch at Berri’s Martin Bend on Monday.
Novita chief executive officer Greg Ward said while the River Run is a fun event, it has a serious side.
“Raising funds for Novita to continue delivering cutting-edge therapies and the latest technology and equipment for clients and families is vital,” he said.
“While crew members are a little down on last year due to COVID, the event has again attracted plenty of keen participants – including one local group dubbed the River Boys – who have been raising funds that help us to deliver the best possible outcomes for our clients.”
Mr Ward said he was grateful for the support at the client lunch.
“When the teams arrived at Martin Bend on Monday, they came all dressed up in costumes,” he said.
“As well as Novita clients, we also had the Riverland Special School there on the day and the participants were fantastic with their interaction with the kids.”
Mr Ward said this year’s fundraising efforts have been “amazing”.
“Despite everything we went through with COVID, Novita has still managed to raise over $270,000 so far this year,” he said.
“The event has become the largest and longest of its kind in South Australia, supporting kids, young people and adults.
“Donations are still open and we aim to reach $300,000 by the end of our event.”
