Fisherama hits the water

KEEN fishers are hitting the river this weekend at the annual Riverland West Fisherama and Boat Raffle, with prizes for both senior and junior casters up for grabs.
The coveted prize of the day will be the boat (pictured), trailer and motor package valued at over $14,000 – and participants are not required to fish, but merely purchase a ticket to have a chance at winning the grand prize.
Event spokesperson Kym Thiel said the 2021 event was looking to be the “best year yet”.
“We’ve got some of the best prizes up for grabs that we’ve ever had, thanks to all our sponsors,” he said.
“There’s a kayak, fish finder, two nights’ accommodation at the Morgan Caravan Park, and heaps more, not to mention the cash prizes.
“As always, the biggest drawcard of the day will be the boat package prize.
“This year’s 4.2m HMF razor boat, 40hp Mercury outboard and trailer has been showcased all over the region, and people don’t have to fish on the day to get a crack at winning it – they just need to buy a ticket.”
The event will kick off this Saturday from 8am at Ramco Point, Ramco. The final weigh-in will commence from the Ramco Football Oval club rooms from 4pm, with presentations held from 6pm.
“The weather is looking to be sensational and we’re expecting a bumper crowd; ticket sales are slightly ahead of last year, and there’s always the last minute influx of people looking to get in,” Mr Thiel said.
“We’re hoping someone will finally beat last year’s winner of heaviest bag category, Errol van der Kaap, who has won five years in a row now. The challenge is on.
“The winner of the boat package doesn’t need to be present during the draw, but the $500 cash draw winner must be in the crowd…
“Tickets are still available and registration will begin at 6.45am on Saturday, and we’ll be having a brekky fry-up at Ramco Point. It’s shaping up to be a great event.”
Tickets can be purchased from Waikerie Honda, Sunlands Service Centre, Woodys Variety Store, Top Catch Barmera, Spot On Berri, Berri Riverside Holiday Park, Morgan Riverside Caravan Park, or directly from organisers Kelly Chamberlain (0409 412 815) and Craig Thiel (0429 430 968).
Tickets are $35 per person, two for $60, or four for $100. Junior entry is $15 but is ineligible for the boat prize; junior entry can be purchased at the full price and still be eligible for the junior prizes.
