Emerson’s exciting year

LOXTON High School 2019 graduate Emerson Fielke is looking forward to making her “big move” to Adelaide next month for university studies, after taking a gap year last year.
The 18-year-old, who is passionate about the media and design industry, got offered a spot at the University of South Australia to study a Bachelor of Communication and Design and will be staying at St Mark’s College.
Emerson spent her gap year as a digital media and school publications trainee at Glossop High School and said the traineeship gave her a “boost” for university.
“After school I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go to uni or not but I did know I wanted to do something in the media or design industry,” she said.
“When the opportunity to do a traineeship at Glossop High School came, I took it and I’m so glad I did because I learnt a lot and it helped me decide what career path I wanted to take.
“The skills I’ve learnt will definitely help me when I start uni and I’m excited to learn more.”
Emerson is enthusiastic about living at St Marks.
“I’ve always wanted to stay at a college after high school so my parents and I went on tours to a few different ones,” she said.
“After seeing a few, St Mark’s was a winner.
“It’s well-presented, nice, clean, and I get to have my own room.
“I also know a few Riverland girls who will be staying there next year, so that is also a comfort for me.
“Moving away from Loxton will be tough and I’ll be a bit nervous but at the same time I’m really excited because I will get to meet new people and gain more independence.”
