Diggers remembered at Anzac Accolades

DOZENS of Riverlanders attended the free Anzac Accolades event last Sunday to commemorate the sacrifices of soldiers past and present.
The event, held at the Renmark Hotel, included performances by the Barmera Men’s Choir, Sing Australia Riverland and the Riverland Filipino Choir, with bugler Terry Marter performing the Last Post.
Organiser Alan Smith said he was happy with the turnout for the event.
“We couldn’t have it last year because of COVID, but now we’ve been able to run it again and we’ll be in Berri in November for the Remembrance Accolades,” he said.
“It’s good that people are happy that Anzac Accolades are back on again.”
Mr Smith said the event was particularly special due to the cancellation of last year’s Accolades.
“We couldn’t have as many people as the room has got space for but we have to follow the rules,” he said.
“We were very pleased as always with the performers…”
The event raised money for the Kangaroo Island Mayoral Relief and Recovery Bushfire Fund.
“We always get a few hundred dollars,” Mr Smith said. “People are very kind.
