Council takes road concerns to State Government

A RIVERLAND council has met with representatives from the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) to discuss issues several local roads.
Berri Barmera Council infrastructure services manager Dave Otto de Grancy attended the meeting, which is part of DPTI’s annual program of meetings with all councils in South Australia.
In a report to council, Mr de Grancy said items on the agenda for the meeting included the Sturt Highway/Old Sturt Highway intersection near Barmera, flooding on Anderson Terrace in Glossop, corrugations on the Old Sturt Highway, and the Old Sturt Highway/Jury Road intersection.
A DPTI spokesperson said the meeting allows both the council and DPTI to highlight concerns and enable forward planning and consultation.
“Items discussed during this meeting included the Roads of Strategic Importance (ROSI) initiative,” the spokesperson said.
“Under this initiative the Commonwealth and State Governments have allocated $87.5 million (on an 80:20 contribution basis) to address productivity and safety issues along the Sturt Highway corridor between Gawler and Renmark.”
