Community supports silo garden

MORE than 40 volunteers assisted in planting 500 trees at the Waikerie silos on Sunday as part of the site beautification project.
Members of the Waikerie Men’s Shed, Rotary, Country Fire Service, Silent Ripples and TradeMutt planted nearly 500 native trees, shrubs and installed ground covers at the Waikerie silo site as part of the landscaping and garden project.
Waikerie Men’s Shed interim chair Bob Kemp said the Loxton Waikerie council had “ripped” the site ground to make installing the irrigation system and planting the trees easier.
“The community response was a wonderful collective, with around 40 people turning up to assist planting and watering,” he said.
“There is still a bit of work to do to finish the planting, which the Men’s Shed will complete over the coming weeks.”
Silent Ripples co-ordinator Janet Kuys said she was “overwhelmed” with the community support for the project.
“We’re very much looking forward to installing benches at the site, which will be done by the Rotary Club of Waikerie in the near future,” she said.
