Church’s architecture in the limelight

LOXTON’S iconic Lutheran church will be brought to life when a light show is projected onto it later this year.
Illuminart company director Cindi Drennan visited St Peter’s Lutheran Church recently, after Little Town Productions secured funding for the light show project as a Christmas event.
Ms Drennan said the light show would take the architectural features of the 95-year-old church into consideration.
“This type of projection actually augments the heritage and brings it to life,” she said.
“It helps people to appreciate what an incredible stone structure it is.
“It makes us be aware of the fantastic stonework because we’re illuminating it.”
Ms Drennan said planning was well under way for the light show.
“There are lots of logistics (in) planning the event so it is safe and so that people can see,” she said.
“We will be choosing specific visual artists in the community and possibly doing a call-out.”
After viewing the church virtually a number of times, Ms Drennan said it was beneficial to see the church with her own eyes.
“What I really appreciated was how much space there is,” she said.
“From a heritage point of view, these types of projects are absolutely amazing because people recognise that something so iconic can be taken for granted
“The thing that is really nice about it is knowing that very often people are too rushed and too busy to appreciate architecture and history, but a project like this brings it all together.”
Little Town Production’s proposed light show got the green light last month after securing grant funding and a commitment from the Loxton Waikerie council.
The event will take place over consecutive nights in the lead-up to Christmas.
