Children cheer: Playgrounds are back

LOCAL children are rejoicing after councils were given the green light from the State Government last week to re-open playgrounds across the region.
The Berri Barmera, Loxton Waikerie and Renmark Paringa councils had taped off playgrounds and outdoor fitness equipment during the peak of the pandemic, however have now been advised by South Australia Chief Public Health Officer Nicola Spurrier it was safe to re-open them.
Berri Barmera Council human resources and risk manager Veronica Rothe said council staff have “been busy” disinfecting equipment and updating signage in playgrounds.
“Our staff will be progressively working on other playgrounds in our area and we will constantly provide updates,” she said.
SA Health have advised the chance of equipment accessible to everyone in parks and playgrounds being contaminated is very low, and can be controlled by taking responsibility for practicing distancing and hygiene practices.”
Ms Rothe urged the public to “play their part” while enjoying parks and playgrounds.
“Although playgrounds and parks have re-opened, it doesn’t mean people should stop being mindful,” she said.
“We encourage social distancing, small gatherings of 10 people or less, safe hygiene – such as hand washing, sanitising and other hygiene practices – and if you’re unwell, please stay home.”
