Chester fed up with dumped rubbish

LOADS of rubbish and scrap metal being dumped at a local business are continuing to inconvenience its 75-year-old owner.
CW & JF Martin operator Chester Martin claims large piles of rubbish have been left at the edge of his Renmark-based business “four times” over a recent two-week period.
Mr Martin said the items left behind – including steel mesh, used gas bottles, microwaves and car tyres – had little value for scrap or recycling.
“I’m not the rubbish dump,” Mr Martin said.
“There’s seven car tyres there with no rims or anything... depending on what joint you go to they will not accept gas bottles unless you punch a hole in them, but the smaller they get I find it harder to punch a hole through it.
“It’s full of grass and it just keeps coming. I’ve shifted two or three loads already (and) this has all been in the last week and a half.
“It’s valueless to me and I can’t pick everything up.”
Mr Martin said the rubbish was left behind at night, but had few indicators of where it came from.
“I’ve contacted council and they said they would come and clean it up, but it’s actually not on council land,” he said.
Mr Martin said the culprits were likely attempting to avoid fees associated with taking the rubbish to a local dump.
