Blanchetown ready for $500k revitalisation project

STREET scaping, signage, boat ramp facility upgrades and better river access are all on the cards for the Blanchetown Revitalisation project, with $495,000 to be spent on improving the town.
The Mid Murray Council (MMC) will undertake a series of projects in Blanchetown through the Federal Government’s Murray-Darling Basin Economic Development program, with $450,000 of funding to boost the town’s amenities.
Member for Barker Tony Pasin visited Blanchetown last week to speak with the MMC about the projects to revitalise the town.
“The funding is helping Blanchetown remain a great place to live and boosting the tourism offer by improving town amenities,” he said.
“Not only will these projects directly benefit local residents, but increasing visitor numbers to Blanchetown means more money coming into and circulating in the local economy.
“This Federal funding injection of $450,000 comes at a critical time when regional tourism is bouncing back.
“The funding will also help with the Blanchetown Water Reuse Irrigation Project, which will see community wastewater used to irrigate the public oval.”
The MMC is injecting $45,000 of in-kind co-contribution to bring the total cost to $495,000.
The first stage of the upgrades will see the medical centre car parking area re-sheeted and reshaped to divert stormwater run-off, as well as medical centre and RSL landscaping, irrigation, visitors information sign demo and a new sign installed at the BP Roadhouse.
Public toilet upgrades will follow, along with boat ramp fish guide signs, bins for carp disposal and tackle waste.
Stage three will see upgrades at the old oval, including the nature playground, additional gym equipment, landscaping and screening plantings.
The final priority will improve river access with willow control by stem injection and reed clearance.
