Berri Courthouse beefs up security as point-of-entry searches introduced... SAFETY FIRST

SECURITY measures will be beefed up at the Berri Courthouse to reduce the risk of harm to judiciary members, court staff and users.
The State Government will implement point-of-entry searches at the Kay Avenue site, including the use of walk-through and handheld scanners, and additional sheriff officers.
High case numbers and daily permanent staff saw Berri join a list of five regional SA courthouses recommended for
the new measures.
As part of the State Budget, the Government has allocated $638,000 in 2020-21 and $523,000 per annum from 2021-22 to facilities in Berri, Mt Barker, Murray Bridge, Port Pirie and Whyalla.
“This is a significant investment to ensure the safety of victims, court staff and court users,” Attorney-General Vickie Chapman said.
“It will create jobs and deliver new security measures to keep people safe.
“Ensuring the justice system works safely and efficiently is vital for South Australians, and this investment in regional courthouse security will enhance that process.
“No one should feel afraid coming to work or attending court as a victim or family member.
“This is all part of our plan to keep South Australia safe and strong.”
The five courthouses were recommended by the Courts’ Administration Authority.
