Basketball reunion holds court

HUNDREDS of current and former Loxton basketballers relived the history of the region’s oldest club at the Loxton Amateur Basketball Association 70th anniversary celebration on Saturday night.
About 250 people attended the event – held at The Precinct in Loxton – that showcased old photos and memorabilia, plus the screening of a documentary about the history of Loxton basketball.
Club committee member and event organiser Jill Lange described the event as “sensational”.
“I think everyone really enjoyed it and got something out of it, especially among the younger kids that were there,” she said.
“They were quite intrigued by how the Loxton Basketball Club started, and some of the adults were too.
“The whole committee who worked hard for this event, which was 18 months in the making, felt really happy with the way the night went too.”
The documentary, produced by local man John DeCaux from Six Foot Four Productions, covered the entire history of the Loxton Amateur Basketball Association from its founding in 1949 to the present day.
“Everyone there was in awe of it and said it was fantastic and added to the whole night,” Mrs Lange said. “It was great for people to sit there and reminisce about the old days, and people thoroughly enjoyed it.”
Mrs Lange said several former residents returned to Loxton for the celebrations.
“Some of the old teams actually organised reunions on the Saturday or Sunday for lunch or breakfast,” she said.
“It was good to see them get together on Saturday night chinwag and have smiles on their faces, and have a few laughs as well.”
Mrs Lange said a Loxton 70th Anniversary History website would go online in the coming weeks.
“A lot of the photos and the documentary will be available on the website, so people can view all the hard work we have done if they weren’t there on the night,” she said.
