Barmera markets are back

BARMERA will be the place to be this long weekend as its popular Sunday morning markets are back and ready to treat locals and visitors.
The Barmera Main Street Markets, which take place the first Sunday of every month excluding winter months, are back, after being closed since April due to COVID-19.
Market co-ordinator Kelsey Hogan said she was “excited” to see the markets up-and-running again.
“The markets first got cancelled in April, just when we were about to host our Easter markets with an open-air cinema,” she said.
“I think everyone gets enjoyment from the markets as there is something for everyone: fresh produce, arts and crafts, clothing, jewellery, food, plants, and the Barmera Lion’s Club’s famous hot doughnuts.”
Ms Hogan said this Sunday’s layout will be different than others.
“We have to keep COVID protocols in mind so everything will be spaced out a bit more – that includes stalls and people,” she said.
“There will still be lots of original stalls coming, as many stallholders are keen to get back out there, but we also have some new stallholders joining us.
“There will be hand sanitiser spread out down the street, everyone will have to practice social distancing and store holders need to all have a COVID-safe plan.”
Ms Hogan said she hopes this weekend’s markets will attract many people.
“It’s a long weekend and accommodation providers are booked out,” she said.
“Our markets are lots of fun and it’ll mean a lot for tourism and have stallholders earn some money again.
“It’s a perfect time to start it up again and I can’t wait to see people out-and-about again.”
The Barmera Main Street Markets begin 9am on Sunday and finish at 1pm.
