Barmera launches two-person ambrose comp

A FIRST-of-its-kind tournament at the Barmera Golf Club could be a unique feature on the Riverland golf calendar as the only two-person ambrose event.
Matt Lewan said coming on board to sponsor the event, along with fellow club member Mark Yates, would be an opportunity to give back to the club.
“We thought we’d try to give something back to the club as it runs on a volunteer basis,” he said.
“Hopefully it’s something we can build annually and turn it into an event people put in their calendar.”
Having played together in the past with Yates, Lewan said there is always plenty of banter around who has hit the best ball.
“I sometimes remind Mark he hits his sand wedge as far as his driver,” he said.
“But it’s all about having a bit of fun.”
The Barmera Golf Club’s two-person ambrose event tees off May 1.
Meanwhile the Riverland golf veterans’ season kicked off at Berri on April 12.
