Barmera CFS joins state-wide campaign recognising volunteers

A LOCAL CFS branch was among the groups acknowledging its volunteers this week during National Volunteer Week.
The Barmera CFS has joined Volunteering SA&NT’s Colour Your Community Red campaign by displaying red ribbons in front of the station.
Lieutenant Mandy Vincent said the station had joined the campaign as a way of acknowledging the work of its volunteers.
“It’s basically just to say thank you to our volunteers and thank you to the community for supporting us,” she said.
Ms Vincent said the station, where about 20 people currently volunteer, plays a “very important role” for the local community.
“Even though we are the Country Fire Service, we aren’t just here for fires,” she said.
“We’re here to help people in the local area with a range of things when they need us.”
Volunteering SA&NT CEO Evelyn O’Loughlin said volunteers should “stand up, be proud, and participate” in the Colour Your Community Red campaign.
“We’ve made it easy for everyone in the community to be involved – from businesses to community groups, not-for-profits, schools and sporting clubs – as well as governments and individuals,” she said.
“We want to thank every single volunteer, along every street and in every community.
“You can show your support by tying something red out the front of your home or business from Monday, May 18 for the week.”
