A school year full of firsts...and lasts

NEW teachers, friends, shoes, notebooks, lunchboxes and uniforms were a few things children got excited over when they returned to school this week.
The 2021 school year began yesterday after a six-week break.
Three schools across the region have new principals, a number of students started reception, Cadell Primary School merged with Ramco Primary School, and South Australia will see its last year 7s in primary school in 2021, as year 7 will move to high school in 2022.
Renmark’s Harry Dillon, who started reception yesterday at Renmark West Primary School, said making new friends and furthering his math skills were two of the things he looked forward to on his first day.
“I went to kindy at Renmark West and my cousin goes there, so I already know some people,” he said.
“The school has a big playground with lots of swings and it’s really fun.
“I’m excited to do some puzzles and learn more about sea creatures, especially squid.”
The four-year-old said he had been practicing his math skills with his father before school commenced.
“My dad has been teaching me some math and I like it,” Harry said. “I can’t wait for my teacher to teach me more math because it’s fun.”
