41 straight as records tumble

LOXTON High School won its 41st consecutive Riverland interschool athletics carnival, held in ideal conditions at Waikerie High School yesterday.
Loxton High amassed 2095 points to take the Championship Shield, well clear off runners-up Glossop High on 1828 points.
Glossop High collected the Most Improved Shield (formerly the Handicap Shield), ahead of Loxton, Waikerie and Renmark.
Two new records were set, with Renmark allrounder Bailey White smashing the 34-year-old record for the under 15 boys 1500m event, carving nearly 13 seconds of the time set by Loxton High’s Karl Hennig back in 1987.
Glossop High School runner Tahlia Dillon set a new record in the under 16 girls 400m event, clocking 1:02.27 – well under the previous mark of 1:03.97, set by Loxton High’s Donna Kupke in 2003.
Waikerie High’s Aaliyah Loffler won the female Athlete of the Day award, while Glossop High’s Joshua Sawyer won the male award.
Loxton High won both the girls shield and the boys shield – plus the Ballgames Shield for good measure.
