$300k Apex Park project concept

BERRI Barmera councillors have endorsed concept plans for a $300,000 upgrade at Berri’s Colin Jennings Apex Park, with a detailed plan expected to be presented to the public in early 2021.
The upgrade, which is expected to be fully-funded by the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, is set to include a new pump track, solar barbecue shelter and a multi-purpose footpath/scooter track.
At July’s ordinary council meeting, elected members passed a motion to endorse the concept design and to allow council staff to develop a detailed plan for public consultation.
Berri Barmera chief executive officer Karyn Burton said further progress on the project would likely be made once projects funded through the Drought Communities Program are completed.
“We’ll concentrate on this project later in the year and have some plans drawn up for public consultation,” she said.
“To me, this is one of our best projects of the year.
“No other town has a pump track of this size… so we are hoping it will be a bit of a drawcard, with older kids being able to use the track and younger kids using the scooter path.
“It’s definitely going to be more of an active recreation park.”
The council released a master plan for Berri’s Coombe Street reserve in April and have $50,000 allocated to develop another master plan for Alan Glassey Park.
