$140k for Loxton Waikerie’s new arts role

A LOCAL council will employ an arts and cultural facilitator after being awarded $140,000 from the Federal Government.
The District Council of Loxton Waikerie was awarded a Regional Arts Fund Recovery Boost through Country Arts SA to deliver a multi-year arts strategy.
District Council of Loxton Waikerie chief executive officer David Beaton said the fund – which council will match dollar-for-dollar – will support diversity within the district.
“There’s a vibrant arts community within the council area and it’s good that we can support and help grow that,” he said.
The arts and cultural facilitator role will focus on developing both local artists and audiences, fostering ongoing economic, social, and cultural development in the area.
Loxton Waikerie council was just one of five South Australian councils to be awarded the funding.
Minister for Communications, Urban Infrastructure, Cities and the Arts, Paul Fletcher, said the Federal Government’s investment in the development and sustainability of regional arts is “crucial” for the recovery of the state’s cultural and creative sector.
“(The fund) will provide opportunities for arts workers to create and deliver arts and cultural programs that will support the growth of the creative arts industries across regional South Australia,” he said.
