110km/h limit just around the corner

STEPHANIE THOMPSON
OVER three years after it was promised, the 110km/h speed limit on Brown’s Well Highway is only “weeks away” from being reinstated.
Chaffey MP Tim Whetstone’s 2018 pre-election promise was to repair and reinstate the Brown’s Well Highway to 110km/h, after the Labor Government cut the speed to 100km/h in 2017 due to safety concerns.
Mr Whetstone thanked locals for their patience and said works to the highway would be completed in coming weeks, with the former speed limit to be reinstated soon after.
“There are still some safety barriers to be completed and some minor speed restrictions are at those locations,” he said.
“I am told that as soon as the works are finished, the speed limits will be reinstated back to 110km/h.”
Mr Whetstone said the $15 million project was a “long time in the making”.
“It’s a major thoroughfare for freight and for tourism and it’s a major part of the arterial road network in the Riverland and Mallee,” he said.
“Proudly, we are fixing the roads up before we reinstate the speed limits, rather than just sticking to reduced limits and not costing any money.
“I am very, very proud that I am part of a government that is prepared to represent all of South Australians and the regions that are critically important.”
