Our own fast food alley

Not that many years ago, the drive home from Adelaide was considered incomplete without a visit to fast food alley (often less charitably termed ‘junk food alley’) at Elizabeth.

For children at least, a short detour off Main North Road led to a treasure trove of delights unlike anything we had here in the Riverland.

The region will soon have such an ‘alley’ when fast food giant Hungry Jack’s finally becomes a reality in Renmark.

It’s exciting news for those who enjoy Hungry Jack’s food, but not-so-good news for other local take-away outlets, especially those in Renmark.

Taking a glass half full approach, hopefully the Hungry Jack’s store will help create an acknowledged hub in Renmark, making it a ‘must stop’ destination for those who would normally drive through without giving the town a second thought.

And while Renmark will never be Munno Para, it’s hard to ignore just how that destination’s shopping and eating facilities have grown in recent years, after seemingly starting life as a couple of humble fast food outlets.
