AUSTRALIA’S obsession with sporting culture is the focus of a topical comedy show – currently earning great reviews at Fringe – in Barmera tomorrow night.
Go, Sports! will be performed by Kyle Wamsley, who promises “a marathon of comedy and sports bullying on stage”.
“There will be blood (fake), sweat (real) and tears (who knows),” Wamsley said.
“If you hate/love sports, let the games begin.”
The Darwin-based performer, who was a national finalist in the Melbourne International Comedy Festival’s Raw Comedy Competition, promises “an entire unproblematic history of Australian sporting culture”.
“Sports is cool,” he said.
“Matty Johns, Israel Folau, Wayne Carey: heroes. It’s the best part about Australia, and there’s nothing problematic about it.”
Walmsley is a director, performer and theatre maker having performed, directed and created work with companies around Australia. He was a national finalist in ABC’s Raw Comedy Competition.
Walmsley will perform Go, Sports! at Barmera’s Bonney Theatre tomorrow, from 7pm.
