LOCALS have been advised the River Murray is expected to "rise rapidly over the next fortnight", despite there being no changes to predictions surrounding the first peak of the ongoing flood event.
Premier Peter Malinauskas today announced expected maximum flows for the first peak of the current River Murray flood event remained between 175GL/day and 200GL/day.
However, current forecasting for the second peak flow – expected in late December or early January – has shown a high probability of reaching at least 185 GL/day, a moderate probability of 200 GL/day and a lower probability of 220GL/day.
Mr Malinauskas said the flood event was likely to result in "road and ferry closures, disruptions to the power network and reduced services" throughout the region.
"We are doing everything we can to ensure people living along the River Murray have the resources they need to get through the next few months," Mr Malinauskas said.
"We have acted swiftly to establish disaster funding for those already dealing with the extra water that’s coming down the river, as well as those who may be impacted in the coming weeks."
SES chief officer Chris Beattie advised Riverlanders it was "important for households and businesses to take action now".
"Know your risk... to see if your property is likely to be inundated. Remove valuables, move furniture to higher ground, and plan when you will need to leave."
