Seven millionth vehicle milest...

4WD club's early Christmas celebrations
August has been a month of celebrations for the Riverland 4WD Club.
At the monthly general meeting held at Cobdogla, member Alison Smith, of Loxton, was presented with a certificate of appreciation for her outstanding services to the club as newsletter editor for the past four years.
Members were also given details of several forthcoming events on the club's calendar.
Guest speaker Rosemary Gower gave an interesting account of why the World War II internment camps were established at Loveday, and an insight into the lives and activities of the German and Italian internees who spent their time there.
Events this month included:
- A Christmas in July weekend event held at Cooltong. It was the first outing for several new members of the club. Father Christmas arrived and brought with him the cold winds from the North Pole and stayed to enjoy the gathering complete with warm camp fire.
- An interesting trip to the Big Desert State Forest area, south of Murrayville in Victoria, where members were given the opportunity to test their driving skills in challenging sandy conditions while visiting points of interest and camping overnight. This area takes in three significant patches of Red, blue and yellow gums, standing tall in the surrounding heathland vegetation.

Driver training course
This year's Riverland 4WD driver training course has begun with seven members undertaking the basic course.
The group started with a two night theory segment which will be followed by practical instructions and assessments in the next few weeks.
The course is aimed at teaching four wheel drivers the safe and responsible way to drive in various situations.
The next meeting of the Riverland 4WD Club will be on Tuesday, September 9, at the Berri Club at 7.30pm.
Anyone interested in joining the club is welcome to attend.

Seven millionth vehicle milestone made in SA
GM Holden's seven millionth vehicle rolled off the production line at the Elizabeth Vehicle Operations Assembly Plant, in Adelaide, last week.
A celebration to mark the event was held at the Elizabeth plant for employees and guests including South Australian Premier Mike Rann, Federal Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research Kim Carr and GM Holden executive director of manufacturing Rod Keane.
Mr Keane said the milestone vehicle was a 60th anniversary Commodore sedan and was identified for dual fuel LPG fitment, delivering family car benefits at small car fuel costs.
“It says so much about us as one of this country's largest manufacturing operations and most trusted brands,” he said.
“The next chapter in our history will see us delivering a wide range of energy solutions to meet varying consumer needs and budgets.
“I believe manufacturing the next million vehicles will be one of the most dynamic periods of GM Holden's rich history.”
Mr Keane said the milestone was an “important achievement and testament to GM Holden's ability to succeed in a changing global environment”.
The GM Holden plant at Elizabeth manufactures 43 models off six variants, including left and right hand drive, making it one of the most flexible plants in GM's worldwide operations.
The Elizabeth plant also manufactured the five millionth vehicle for GM Holden - a VN Calais in August, 1990 - and the six millionth - a VX Commodore SS in June 2001.
