Other recent news:

School relocation4
THE RELOCATION of the Riverland Special School has been ongoing since 2004 when the governments wanted to redevelop the existing site when there was around 40 plus students.

Embellished headline1
IN REFERENCE to the police report headed 'Teen bashed at fundraiser' in a recent edition of The Murray Pioneer (30/3/10), I would like to express my disappointment in your reporting of the incident.

Cut immigration now
IN MY 65 years I've never voted Liberal, or Labor for that matter.

Schapelle’s horror story3
SCHAPELLE CORBY'S on the cover of Woman’s Day again.

Why can't people just leave the police alone? You pay their wages with tax, so they are just doing their job. We need more police enforcement in the Riverland. So just because you do the wrong thing and get caught, don’t complain about it, grow up.

In reply to B. Sullivan’s Letter to the Editor (20/8/10), I understand the need to target drink drivers and such. But defects for paint missing on a bonnet is hardly putting a family in danger.

Can someone please tell Joe Gropler and those few people left on the Lake Bonney Management Committee that the community doesn’t want a wet/dry cycle lake? The town needs its lake open all the time, or tourism is dead - if it’s not already. It’s scary how they just don’t get it. Or maybe they do, that’s even scarier.

The independent politicians who are choosing the future of Australian politics need to honour their electorates’ preference or face the same fate as Karlene Maywald did.

I now know why rates are over the top in Berri. The council has just given the council chambers a major makeover, including new furniture and chattels. Makes you wonder whose interests this council are supporting. Kiss my vote goodbye at the soon-to-be elections.

Answer to Phil’s Text the Editor (24/8/10), while the rates difference between Renmark Paringa and Berri Barmera Councils remains so high, how could they amalgamate? Just imagine my rates at over $2700 being forced on the same value property in Renmark currently paying just under $1200? I don’t think so (yet I’m expected to pay them).

Hey Nick, of Paringa, rumour is that Mark Williams has been offered the recently vacated Essendon coaching job. And he might just take it.

Well done Barmera Baseball Club. Fifteen people at our AGM formed a committee of 15 for the coming season. During challenging times and hearing stories of struggling committees, baseball is the sport to be in!

My four Power mates (Text the Editor, 27/8/10) and I celebrated them finishing above the Crows. Let’s hope it’s in the top eight next year.

To the lady who wants to know if I’m a Labor voter, yes, I sure am. After 23 years in the railways (starting in Renmark in 1969), I was and always will be a union-orientated voter. What the Riverland needs is a light rail system between the towns.

Once again the goose was handed the golden egg of Barker.

John, are you suggesting, in your Text to the Editor (27/8/10) that I must be born here, or have lived here some magical number of years before I can be aware of some unspoken mysteries about Lake Bonney, that you have alluded to? I moved here in 1985 – isn’t nearly 26 years long enough? My front door will always be open to you for a chat. Please come around and enlighten me, over a cup of tea, as to when the magic will happen for me, or perhaps even explain to me the mysteries of the lake.
