Nick Xenophon's loyal band of local supporters would no doubt regard him as somewhat of a guardian angel for the Riverland.

They - and others across the state – would be further enamoured with the Senator following his actions this week, when he acted swiftly to invite maverick independent MP Bob Katter to tour the South Australian section of the Murray Darling Basin.
Mr Katter is a throwback to a different era, when politicians spoke their mind loudly, brashly and with little care for what the media made of them or their comments.
He is far removed from the carefully stage managed federal election campaign we endured leading up to August 21.
Regardless, Senator Xenophon was immediately onto the front foot when Mr Katter's alarming, bordering on irresponsible, comments on the Murray-Darling Basin were splashed across front pages everywhere this week.
Even better than talking to Mr Katter about his comments, Mr Xenophon will personally show him our end of the river
You can bet his local tribe of followers will be front and centre if he requires any assistance while in the Riverland.
