Apparently two sites were under consideration for the new regional dump? It is said that the Berri Barmera Council bureaucrats will not divulge the location of the other site. Is this true? What about openness and transparency in local government? Why is council treating the community like mushrooms?

Graham A (Text the Editor, 6/8/10), this is how advertising - and in fact free enterprise, something Labor does its best to kill – works: you pay for something, and you get it. So the reason you are seeing Liberal ads on TV is because they paid for them. If the Sex Party paid for ads, they'd get them too. The 'bias’ you speak of simply doesn’t exist when it comes to free-to-air advertisements. If you want political bias, turn your TV to the ABC.

I saw the ad for Evoke Hair Salon in Friday’s Pioneer, talking about their two-year birthday, and I want to say thanks to Tianna and Caterina for being such lovely girls and for always doing a great job.

If ‘Mike’ (Text the Editor, 6/8/10) the site selected for the new regional dump is owned by a Berri Barmera councillor, then the affected residents and Mallee Fowl Restaurant have every right to feel sceptical and let down by our councillors at the transparency and selection process.

With regard to Sue (Text the Editor, 6/8/10), my new rates came the other day and they have also gone up again, to $2722.35. We are not connected to town water or effluent and we have to generate our own electricity. And if the council gets its way we will have the new Riverland waste depot across the road.

The MCG is the home of the AFL grand final (H&C, The Pioneer, 6/8/10), not any other venue.

That editorial by Paul Mitchell in last week’s Pioneer was a disgrace (‘Sensible options only, thanks’ 3/8/10). So much for The Murray Pioneer being apolitical. Not everyone in the Riverland is from the conservative right. The editor of The Pioneer would be well served keeping his political opinions to himself.

The Liberals are promising over $9 billion in expenditure, while Labor are promising nearly $3 billion. For a country that, according to Mr Abbott, is not that well off money-wise, where is the $9 billion coming from? Vote buying? I think so.

No water for growers or sustainability, yet plenty for 224,000 migrants. The fruit growers and farmers would like to thank the Federal Government for our misery.

I always look forward to the Letters to the Editor that Malcolm Daws writes, so I am devouring his intelligent, witty political commentaries. A pleasant change. Regular pieces please?

Gee Jack (The Pioneer, 3/8/10), if you’re going to stage a highway protest, it’s going to be a very short one if you keep driving on the wrong side of the road.
