Embellished headline
IN REFERENCE to the police report headed 'Teen bashed at fundraiser' in a recent edition of The Murray Pioneer (30/3/10), I would like to express my disappointment in your reporting of the incident.
ON MONDAY morning, July 12, I had a bad fall when I tripped over the gutter outside the Visitors Information Centre in Berri.
I was unable to get to my feet, as I was somewhat stunned, and I was lying partly on the road and partly on the footpath.
Cars passed but nobody stopped to render aid.
Then I heard someone shout: "Don't try to get up, we’ll help you".
Running towards me were two Aboriginal men, followed by several others, men and women, all expressing their concern.
Such gentleness, such concern was shown to me by these wonderfully kind people as I was helped to my feet and taken into the information centre, where my daughter works.
I was then taken to hospital for examination and apart from a badly bruised knee cap, slight cut on my forehead and mild concussion I was okay.
I was told later that these kind people came into the centre later that day expressing concern for my well-being.
I do not know the names of these wonderful people, but I wish to thank them with my whole heart. I am reminded of the parable of the Good Samaritan every time I think of the absolute kindness and concern expressed by these Aboriginal people.
I would like to further add I am in my 85th year and it is pleasing that there are those who respect those of the older generation.
May God bless you always, my dear friends.
