The Riverland is situated 250kms north east of Adelaide with a population of approximately 35,000. The Murray Pioneer was established in 1892 and serves the Riverland and Northern Mallee area of South Australia.

The region is known as South Australia's fruit bowl - but in addition to the strong history or grape, citrus and horticulture properties, the Riverland is home to a thriving almond industry, and has a reputation as a quality wine and food region.

The Riverland is a popular tourist destination with numerous fleets of houseboats and a very warm climate to compliment the area as a haven for watersports and river recreation.

The Murray Pioneer, one of SA's oldest newspapers, was founded in 1892. It is part of the Taylor owned Murray Pioneer Group, with sister newspapers in SA's Riverland at Loxton (The Loxton News), Waikerie (The River News), Gawler (The Bunyip), Pinnaroo (The Border Times) and in Burra (The Mid North Broadcaster).
